Jie Zheng proves it wasn’t a fluke
After her unexpected victory over Ana Ivanovic, most would have brushed Jie Zheng off as a fluke. However, she proves her critics wrong with yet another upset victory. This time it was the number 18 seed Nicole Vaidisova.
Unlike her match with Ivanovic, this match took some effort, and she had to do it in three sets. However, this match certainly cemented her as one of the players to watch for… on second thoughts there’s only 4 players left in the women’s group… Regardless, I’ve decided to back her ever since Leyton Hewitt got unceremoniously knockout by the Fed Express.
Also, I guess I really didn’t give her enough credit in my previous post, but I still maintain that her victories were more due to her opponents’ poor performance than any spectacular skills from Zheng. And, yes, there’s definitely going to be sensational media spin on this in China.
